Fashion on the Road
The life of a model is similar to that of any performer on the road, though it may appear
glamourous, behind the camera the wear and tear of real life still continues. There are so many aspects of a fashion show, and so many characters who make the scene come to life. The models are the face of fashion, but the designers, the sewers, all the photographers make up the rest of the outfit that helps create the fashions that help influence modern trends.
One of the most common aspects of fashion is that it transcends cultures and one necessary item for every woman’s purse is a passport. International travel is a regular aspect of the traveling model’s life. It is very important that a model keeps her passport up to date in case a job is presented that requires the model travel at a moment’s notice. Of course if a model is not a sought after model it is important to check and double check the credentials of any hiring agency to determine the validity of the job offer. It might be necessary, depending on the area of travel, that a working visa might be necessary, and it is important to research as much in advance as possible.
The stimulation of a fashion show is reminiscent of any art show hosted. The face and body of the model becomes a symbol of perfection, aided by the make-up artists, the clothing designers, and the elaborate costumes, she becomes greater than the sum of all her attendants. Once all the glam and glitter is removed the model becomes a normal person, although perhaps a little prettier than the average person. After the cameras wrap up and the make up comes off, the strenuous life of a model and the traveling fashion shows returns to the forefront. With the life of any traveller the constant life on the road, the late nights and intense preparation required beforehand make the life less than ideal. Of course one aspect that is appealing is the idealization of the model, she is a living embodiment of modern art.
